In Josquin's chansons de regretz we find a kind of autopoiesis, a poetic string of self citations from one piece to the other. The topic is dealing with loss and death but Josquin shows us how music is transcending the flow of time. These pieces show the strong influence of classic texts like Cicero's Somnum Scipionis, Vergil's Eclogues and Ovid's Tristia. The self-citations are magical words transporting the energy of the universe, according to another great inspiration for Josquin, Ficino.
